Carleen Thompson
Carleen Thompson has broad experience in organizational leadership, transformational human resource development, performance management, employee benefits, compensation alignment, labor/employee relations, HR analytics and employment law. Carleen’s professional human resource experience in higher education includes her current role as Assistant Vice Chancellor Human Resources for the PIMA College Higher Education System and previous service as Vice President Human Resources, Title IX and Inclusive Excellence for Tuskegee University. Carleen also has prior experience as Assistant Vice Chancellor of Human Resources for Indiana University – Purdue University in Indianapolis, Indiana the largest of the IU campuses, where she was responsible for the areas of compensation/benefits, employment, talent management and organizational design. Her responsibilities also included multi-campus employee and labor relations management.
Carleen’s HR and employment law experience includes having served as CHRO and Assistant General Counsel for SourceAmerica, a national non-profit federal procurement catalyst in the DC area. Her additional HR experience includes corporate positions held with Pfizer, Inc. – Corporate and USWest/Qwest.
Carleen’s legal background includes in-depth experience as Attorney for the National Labor Relations Board – Office of Appeals, Assistant General Counsel - Employment for American General Corporation, EmploymentLitigationCounselforFedExCorporationand Senior Counsel in the employee benefit areas for Anthem, Inc. Among her numerous professional and nonprofit affiliations Carleen is the former Vice Chair of the University of Illinois – Champaign Graduate Board of Advisors. She volunteers and serves as a facilitator/mentor for Dress for Success and the CLEO program. She is a graduate of Leadership Indiana, a leadership development program for communityleaders.
Ms. Thompson’s academic background includes a B.S. from the University of Missouri – Columbia. Following her undergraduate studies she received an M.A. in Human Resource Management from the University of Illinois – Graduate College, Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations with a concentration in human resource management and labor relations. Additionally, Ms. Thompson received her Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law – where she served on the Law Journal Editorial Board. As a dedicated lifelong learner Carleen recently completed her LLM in International and Comparative Law from Indiana University – The McKinney School of Law.
